Creating a Dream Beauty Space at Home: Q&A with Litonya Buckley
For many professionals in the beauty industry, having a space to call their own is a dream come true. For hairdresser Litonya Buckley, owner of Hair Art Industry, that dream became a reality when she transformed a Room To Move space into a fully functional hair salon at her home in Luddenham, NSW.
“I turned my portable room into a hair salon, so I was able to work for myself and grow my own little salon,” Litonya shares. “I love it!”
After a decade in the hairdressing industry, working with some of the best in the business, Litonya was ready to step out on her own. “It was time for me to shine on my own and build my own little empire of hair, something I’ve wanted for the longest time.”
Her new space has allowed her to take her business full-time. “I was able to quit my salon job and work from home full-time. I have two chairs, one basin—it’s perfect.”
When setting up her salon, Litonya knew exactly what she wanted. “I wanted to create a one-on-one experience for my clients, so I needed something nice and quiet, a little space where I could grow a really nice country clientele.”
With space available on her property, she was able to position the portable salon in a way that perfectly suited her needs, offering her clients a peaceful, one-on-one experience. “If you’re after some lovely country scenery, personalised experience and good vibes, I’m ya girl!”
The response from her clients and fellow hairdressers has been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s amazing. I love it. I get so many comments on the space and the area, especially from other hairdressers and friends who like the room.”
Beyond the practical benefits, Litonya values the peace of mind and flexibility her salon provides. “I’d say the peace of mind that I get, the area that it’s in, and the flexibility are my favourite things.”
While her salon is at home, it still feels like a professional workspace. “It’s so good. But it doesn’t feel like I’m at home working. It’s at home, but it’s not like I’m inside the house. I actually feel like I’m coming to work because it’s detached and it’s my own little space. If I’m not inside, I’m literally in here all the time.”
