Glamping by the Bay: A Seaside Stay Like No Other at Whitecliffs
Nestled in Blairgowrie on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve offers a rare camping experience, one where waking up to the sound of gentle waves and stepping straight onto the sand is part of the everyday. It’s the kind of place where barefoot mornings blend into golden afternoons, and this past summer, the team decided to take the experience one step further.
This past summer, to offer something new for their guests, Whitecliffs introduced two of our large portable rooms into the campground. Thoughtfully positioned just metres from the water, these guest-ready rooms created a more elevated way to stay, perfect for visitors chasing the charm of camping, but with a few extra creature comforts thrown in.
“We really wanted to offer our guests a different experience,” explained Claire, the site’s Foreshore Ranger. “The coastal pods, as we called them, were really well received because they’re a great option for people who want to enjoy the camping atmosphere without needing to set up a tent or tow a caravan. Not everyone has all that gear, so it’s great to be able to give them an alternative.”
Adding the rooms also helped Whitecliffs boost their guest numbers by offering secure, comfortable accommodation with features like a queen-size bed, air conditioning, a small fridge, and a kettle. Positioned just steps from the serene shores of Port Phillip Bay, the rooms gave guests the rare opportunity to stay right by the beach, something few campgrounds in the area can offer.
“There aren’t many campgrounds on the Peninsula offering this kind of secure, glamping-style accommodation,” Claire said. “It’s been really popular with guests, and Airbnb bookings went really well.”
Creature Comforts and Coastal Views
It’s safe to say guests loved the experience, with the air conditioning being a definite standout over the hot summer months! Claire said people also raved about the large windows, which bathe the rooms in natural light and offer beautiful beach views.
“Guests really loved being able to enjoy a morning coffee or a drink at sunset on the cosy front verandas,” Claire added.
And it wasn’t just the aesthetic touches that made an impact. A simple, but much-appreciated feature was the lockable glass sliding doors, which offered guests peace of mind, especially for those travelling light or without a vehicle. “It gave people extra peace of mind knowing they could lock their valuables away securely,” Claire added.
Behind the scenes, the setup process was quick and hassle-free. “The Room to Move team craned the rooms into place with no fuss, completing the full setup in just a couple of hours,” Claire said. Designed to be fully relocatable, the rooms offered the perfect seasonal solution, easy to install and remove without leaving a mark on the landscape, and without compromising on comfort for guests.
